Dan Mackta's Favorite Records Of 2002
I have a hard time with year-end polls. I liked so many records I find it hard to remember which ones really stood out. But I believe in the power of chug as a resource and community so here goes....no particular order
- Oneida, Each One, Teach One (Jagjaguwar/Version City)
- Reigning Sound, Time Bomb High School (In the Red)
- Canyon, Empty Rooms (Gern Blandsten)
- Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (Reprise)
- Hellacopters, High Visibility (Gearhead)
I know, its old. But it came out in the US in 2002. - D.O.A., Hardcore '81 (Sudden Death)
A reissue of one of the all-time greats. I might put some more reissues on this list, I haven't decided yet. - Crooked Fingers, Reservoir Songs (Merge)
- Big Boys, Wreck Collection (Gern Blandsten)
ok, another reissue. I guess I'm taking the easy way out. - Ron House, Obsessed (Moses Carryout)
- Cynics, Living is the Best Revenge (Get Hip)
- The Streets, Original Pirate Material (Vice)
- Charley Patton (Revenant)
- Bad Times, Bad Times (Goner)
- James Luther Dickinson, Free Beer Tomorrow (Artemis)
The Sepia-Tone reissue of 'Dixie Fried' ought to be on here too. Let's consider them one entry - For Against, Coalesce (Words on Music)
- The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Behind the Music (Universal)
same as Hellacopters...live w/it - Lost Sounds, Rat's Brains and Microchips (Empty)
- Polyphonic Spree, The Beginning Stages Of... (Good)
- Rogers Sisters, Purely Evil (Troubleman Unlimited)
- Wire, Read and Burn: 01 (Pink Flag)
That's it- I could add more - but I gotta get to work.
