Dan Mackta's Favorite Records Of 2002

I have a hard time with year-end polls. I liked so many records I find it hard to remember which ones really stood out. But I believe in the power of chug as a resource and community so here goes....no particular order

  1. Oneida, Each One, Teach One (Jagjaguwar/Version City)
  2. Reigning Sound, Time Bomb High School (In the Red)
  3. Canyon, Empty Rooms (Gern Blandsten)
  4. Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (Reprise)
  5. Hellacopters, High Visibility (Gearhead)
I know, its old. But it came out in the US in 2002.
  6. D.O.A., Hardcore '81 (Sudden Death)
A reissue of one of the all-time greats. I might put some more reissues on this list, I haven't decided yet.
  7. Crooked Fingers, Reservoir Songs (Merge)
  8. Big Boys, Wreck Collection (Gern Blandsten)
ok, another reissue. I guess I'm taking the easy way out.
  9. Ron House, Obsessed (Moses Carryout)
  10. Cynics, Living is the Best Revenge (Get Hip)
  11. The Streets, Original Pirate Material (Vice)
  12. Charley Patton (Revenant)
  13. Bad Times, Bad Times (Goner)
  14. James Luther Dickinson, Free Beer Tomorrow (Artemis)
The Sepia-Tone reissue of 'Dixie Fried' ought to be on here too. Let's consider them one entry
  15. For Against, Coalesce (Words on Music)
  16. The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Behind the Music (Universal)
    same as Hellacopters...live w/it
  17. Lost Sounds, Rat's Brains and Microchips (Empty)
  18. Polyphonic Spree, The Beginning Stages Of... (Good)
  19. Rogers Sisters, Purely Evil (Troubleman Unlimited)
  20. Wire, Read and Burn: 01 (Pink Flag)

That's it- I could add more - but I gotta get to work.
