Geoff Cox's Favorite Records Of 2002
here goes, in no particular order. Feel free to ignore.
--Geoff
- Notwist, Neon Golden (city slang)
- interpol, turn on the bright lights (matador)
- chameleons, why call it anything / live at the academy / this never ending now (artful / paradiso / paradiso )
one new album (very good), yet two more odd albums to add to the shelf. Live at the academy is even more energetic than the (classic) toronto album, but it sounds way better. Never ending now is much like their previous "strip" acoustic record, but this one works. - wire , read & burn 01; 02 (pink flag)
- pavement, slanted & enchanted luxe redux (matador)
- sigur ros, ( ) (mca)
all titles in homelandic - tocotronic, tocotronic (motor)
new wave-ish haircuts. track suits. they have defined a syle in Germany... for better or worse.
left intentionally blank.- hot hot heat, make up for the breakdown (sub pop)
the worst hair in rock. - flaming lips, yoshimi battles the pink robots (warner bros)
- royksopp, melody am (astralwerks)
- iron and wine, the creek drank the cradle (sub pop)
- jim yoshii pile up, homemade drugs; tour ep (absolutely kosher)
- and you will know us by the trail of dead, source tags & codes (interscope)
- destroyer , this night (merge)
almost as good as you want it to be. - David Bowie, heathen (iso)
Nice. Except for the pixies' cover, which is not even worth releasing as a bonus track to "never let me down." - raveonettes, whip it on (orchard)
one darn good song, remixed eight times, with different titles and lyrics.
