OLD
- Anima~Sound "Musik für Alle" [Alga Marghen] Tractor-jazz?
- Boards of Canada "Hi Scores" [Skam] An artifact worthy of its ebay stock.
Chug-hot IDM too!
- Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band "Grow Fins" [Revenant] Not exactly what
it was proposed to have been, but the 'field recording' aspect does not
muddy up the diamond/ carrot for this rabid rabbit.
- Gal Costa "Cinema Olympia" [Philips] in which an international pop diva
makes a lush swinging/ screaming psyche record that at one point turns into
the last Boredoms record, all from that majickal year of '69.
- Walt Dickerson Quartet "Impressions of 'A Patch of Blue'" [Verve] No
celeste from sideman Ra, but the harpsichord-vibraphone interaction is
gorgeous.
- Marvin Gaye "Midnight Love & Sexual Healing Sessions" [Columbia] To fend
off the vultures.
- Giorgio Moroder "From Here to Eternity" [Castle Communications] Crucial
link in Kraftwerk/ disco to New Order/ Pet Shop Boys chain.
- Taj Mahal Travellers "August 1974" [P-Vine] Instant kif.
- Masayuki "Jojo" Takayanagi & New Direction for the Arts "Free Form Suite"
[three blind mice] Over the Abe duet and _The Call in Question_, for its
progression from subtle blues beauty to all-out amoebic feedback and dual
drum splatter.
- Los Zafiros "Bossa Cubana" [Nonesuch] Doo-wop from another planet. No wait,
Cuba. Ignacio sings from heaven.
NEW
- Mike Anderson "Zalvi" LP [New World of Sound] One-sided, one-eyed monster,
with tears flowing for Ayler. A mind-blowing meld of jazz outness and
four-track fuckery, a rarely taken path.
- Aurora Plastics Co. "Low Noise" [Bobby J] Near lost 70's private ish
aesthetic that is a plastic mess.
- Autechre "ep7" [Warp] Crunchy.
- fenessz "+47°6'37" -165°'08"" [Touch] Vertigo to go.
- köhn "2" [K-RAA-K] I'm a sucker for cracked electronics and dizzy
dittiness.
- Knife in the Water "plays one sound and others" [self-released] Local
outfit that continues to suck the breath from me. Cohen slashes his wrists
with Parsons/ Harris' teeth.
- Ricky Martin "Cup of Life" [?] At least until I found out that it was about
the World Cup, and not an arena-sized earth ritual chant.
- Matmos "The West" [Deluxe] Banjos, bibles, AND breakbeats?
- Mos Def "Black on Both Sides" [Rawkus] What great rap record is without an
overbite?
- No Neck Blues Band "Live at Ken's Electric Lake" [S@1] Oh, so that's how
they eat a peach.
