• Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band "Grow Fins" [Revenant] Not exactly what it was proposed to have been, but the 'field recording' aspect does not muddy up the diamond/ carrot for this rabid rabbit.
• Gal Costa "Cinema Olympia" [Philips] in which an international pop diva makes a lush swinging/ screaming psyche record that at one point turns into the last Boredoms record, all from that majickal year of '69.
• Walt Dickerson Quartet "Impressions of 'A Patch of Blue'" [Verve] No celeste from sideman Ra, but the harpsichord-vibraphone interaction is gorgeous.
• Marvin Gaye "Midnight Love & Sexual Healing Sessions" [Columbia] To fend off the vultures.
• Giorgio Moroder "From Here to Eternity" [Castle Communications] Crucial link in Kraftwerk/ disco to New Order/ Pet Shop Boys chain.
• Taj Mahal Travellers "August 1974" [P-Vine] Instant kif.
• Masayuki "Jojo" Takayanagi & New Direction for the Arts "Free Form Suite" [three blind mice] Over the Abe duet and _The Call in Question_, for its progression from subtle blues beauty to all-out amoebic feedback and dual drum splatter.
• Los Zafiros "Bossa Cubana" [Nonesuch] Doo-wop from another planet. No wait, Cuba. Ignacio sings from heaven.
