Tuesday Night Games, October 1, 2002

Just another Tuesday night at David's. I forgot to take a picture while playing Too Many Cooks.

Andy, Jonathan, Greg, Paul, and I play Goldland.

I won this game (blue backpack, lower right) with a strategy of going for treasures early, while keeping within reach of the temple. I think I was somewhat lucky getting to place the second desert tile (with a treasure on it) right after I had done the first desert adventure, while still easily able to go back to the start tile for more food. Also, I was the first to reach the temple, even though I wasn't the one to place the temple tile. This was my fourth play, and it was the first time I've seen the game end by everyone getting an amulet. It's also the first time I've seen the game end before the whole board was explored (probably not coincidentally). I think it's also the first time I've played with all the correct rules.

David, Melissa, Bill M., Brian, and Aaron play Zero (not to be confused with Zero!).

Bill S., Mark, Matt, and Karl play Texas using a Rosenkönig set. It's a much better 4-player partnership game than a 2-player game.

It was getting late, so I managed to coerce Aaron, Melissa, Mark, and Bill S. into playing Aquarius.

As you can see, it's very pretty, but the action cards (Swap Goals, Shuffle Goals, Trade Hands, Zap a Card, Move a Card) make it extremely random and chaotic. Still, I enjoy it if people aren't taking it seriously. I want to try some of the Icehouse games that use Aquarius cards as terrain, like Pantopia.

The finished board. We ran out of cards, so no one got 7 contiguous panels, so three of us tied with 6 each (water, earth, fire).

Meanwhile, Brian, Andy, Jonathan, Greg, David, and Paul played Lord of the Rings with the new Sauron expansion, while Aaron watches.

A close-up of the board. Looks like they're pretty close to winning.

Brian as Sauron, deep in his evil plans.

A video game. No idea which one. I think it's a Zelda-ish action/adventure, starring a sword-wielding fox.

I couldn't use the flash, because it would wash out the screen, but the action was too fast for the longer exposure time needed for non-flash pictures. Or maybe the camera was using a longer exposure time than was necessary. I ought to read the manual at some point.

A trio of baddies threaten the poor fox.

Melissa, jacked in.
