Housecooling Party, Sept. 15, 2002

This weekend I decided to throw one last party in my old apartment before I packed up all my games and tables and chairs. A surprising number of people showed up, especially since I only announced it a day ahead of time. I took some pictures with my new digital camera, but unfortunately my batteries ran out halfway through the party. I still haven't learned how to hold the camera steady enough to take non-flash pictures without them being blurry...

Aaron and I started with a game of Knockabout. I tried to keep hold of the middle, while Aaron went for big numbers and won.

Then Mark and Andy showed up (Aaron is in the middle) and we started a game of My Word.

Bill joined us a round later. I think he ended up in third place despite the late start. Aaron creamed us all, despite claiming not to be good at word games. I think quick thinking is much more important than word knowledge or clever word-making skill in this game, which I find a little disappointing.

Nate, Bill and I then played another Pair-of-Dice Games game, Warp 6.

This is the least blurry of the shots I took of the Warp 6 board. Bill was yellow and got off to an early lead with three of his ships into the wormhole, but Nate (black) managed to get four of his ships into the wormhole in quick succession to win.

Meanwhile, Andy, Mark, Aaron, and Elaine embarked on a long game of Funkenschlag.

The power networks began to take form...

The other seven of us played one lap of Formula De, an old favorite of mine, but I don't think the others enjoyed it as much, perhaps because it was moving a bit too slowly. Pictured here are Cally, Tara, Paul, and Nate; Bill, Karl, and I were also playing. Nate and I managed to come from the middle of the pack to take 1st and 2nd place. I think the key was coming out of the 2 curve in 4th gear, when everyone else ahead of us got into trouble and had to shift down to 2nd.

Meanwhile, an hour later, the power networks were still expanding...

A big picture of a finished game of Metro that I was not involved in. Looks like there were some earthquakes in Paris.

Paul, Nate, and I played Cities & Knights of Catan. I'm always up for a Catan game, but this dragged out a little too long-- Nate had 13 points several turns before actually realizing it and declaring victory.
